about

This project represents the contrast of the West coast and the East coast. I have lived in the two places and I am always shocked at how different they are. I have decided to paint what attracts me to each of these areas on old skateboard decks I had lying around my house.

For the East coast board I based my inspiration on the history of Quebec. The french province is definitely an outcast from the rest of Canada but, I believe, it has the richest culture because of everything that has happened here. The painting is based on the Carillon Sacré Coeur Flag that the french-candians waved during the seven year war. I felt like the flag that was used during a monumental part of our history would really represent what differentiates Quebec from the rest of the country.

For the West coast board I decided to paint mountains. The Rockies are in the West and people go to B.C. just for the landscape. So I felt like the only appropriate thing to paint are the mountains.  I really wanted the design to  reference skateboard illustrations.

The reason I chose to paint on the decks is because having my art plaster on a whole bunch of products is a dream of mine. My goal for the future is either to work with skate or ski companies and create designs that they could put on their products. One of my biggest inspirations is Eric Pollard. He is an artist that designs skies for Line Skies and his work is absolutely incredible. So by doing this project it gave me a feel of what working in this field would be like and it totally made me want to do it even more.
